About Me
My name is Martine Ferrere and genealogy research has always been my lifetime passion. I’m of French, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, German and Dutch mixed ancestry just to quote a few of the many regions of the world I am from. I live on Reunion island, a French island in the Indian Ocean.
A few years ago I was able to solve a brick wall in my paternal line and trace back my paternal Portuguese ancestry in the Azores many generations back in time. You can see my Portuguese ancestor’s story (Mateus Ferreira) and his extensive ancestry on Geneanet.org by clicking here.
My Experience
I have been doing family genealogy research in France, Belgium, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom for more than 25 years now and traced back many lineages and built lots of pedigree charts for hundreds of people (friends, students,volunteering in genealogy clubs).
I also started collecting genealogical data from church records three years ago for two parishes that had never been indexed before for the island of Faial in the Azores.
With a lot of daily practise in all kinds of records and with my ability to understand and decipher ancient record handwritings back to the early 1600’s in several languages (French, Portuguese, Spanish and English)
I can even translate these documents from Portuguese (or Spanish) to English or French.
I speak French and English fluently and can read and understand Portuguese and Spanish.
When our hearts turn to our ancestors, something changes inside of us. We feel part of something, greater than ourselves.
